This was the first China>Rider in the Bay Area since 10/20/74. Really good one at that - it's got some mustard on it fo show.

My first Dead show. Case 'a Bud and a tab with my best high school friend. Jerry looked me in the eye after I yelled "China Cat!" He went right into the opening riff. So great to relive such a wonderful memory. OK, now listen to I Know You Rider--you might agree this is one of the best; Jerry is absolutely possessed.

Subject: Awesome shows!
These 5 nights at Oakland Auditorium Arena were awesome! All 5 shows, people! 12/26 is Dick's Picks 5, and the other 4 nights are just as good. If you don't believe me, then just listen to the crowd during each show. I would have given anything to be at any of these shows.
Doesn't get much better than this! Anything from Fall/Winter 1979 is the fucking shit! Go read my SBD review from 12/28. By the way, I was able to download the 1st-set SBD from speedingarrow.net, before they shut it down. But even the entire AUD of this show is off-the-hook, so download it now!
Bob Weir was on another planet during this run! Then again, you could say that about Garcia and the rest of the boys, as well.

ok....it's not the greatest recording..and the show is not top notch..but the second set..the eyes-sailor-saint is top notch..and they really rock it..and since we can't find the tasty soundboards any more, we have this 79, one of my golden years, was a hot one, and this show is worth your download...show-4..sound 3...but still worth your time..peace out..

Subject: Rawk Show
Subject: Rawk Show
The "rawk show" after the blues & folk infused setlist of the previous night. Very High energy at times, however at points it sounds like a sound check or rehearsal, not much interesting going on (mostly in the first set, though Jerry flubs the lyrics to 2nd set opener China Cat big time). It's all well-played though. This is just such a great period of the Dead that they can really carry a show with occasional flashes of brilliance. Many shows in this period were pretty brilliant all the way through, so this one gets 3 stars from me.
